About the Designer:
Christian Dior 1905-1957
French fashion designer Christian Dior was born in Normandy in 1905. His first collection in 1947 launched the iconic "New Look" a heady combination of super femininity and opulence in post war Europe, exaggerated by full skirts and cinched waists. In 1956 in collaboration with Daniel Swarovski, Dior created the Aurora Borealis (AB) coating for Swarovski crystals that was exclusively licensed to Dior at the time, although it is now commonplace. A number of talented designers produced costume jewellery for the House of Dior, including Mitchell Maer, Kramer, Henkel & Grosse, Gripoix, and Robert Goossens. Despite Dior's death in 1957 the House of Dior continues to thrive, their jewellery is admired for it superb quality of manufacture.
