Antique Georgian Garnet Forget-Me-Not Earrings
About the Item
From the Age of Elegance and Poetry in the early 19th century come these flat cut garnet earrings suspending forget-me-not flowers. Garnets were in high demand for their glowing red color, a color that is lovely on any complexion and because they are becoming no matter the age of the wearer. They have the additional quality of being daytime or evening jewelry. Victorians had a second language known as the language of flowers. It was widely known and this flower, the forget-me-not meant remember me or think of me. It was a token of love. How beautiful they are in their hand made majesty. The art of Georgian earrings was to create a rounded setting for the stone in which a thin thin sliver of foil was placed adding the stone above. As night had candles for light, the foil would capture that light and the stones would glow. These earrings though 200 years old, show no age and no damage.
