About the Item

These beauties are bold with classic lines, embracing texture and organic beauty. Textures are reminiscent of water while the shape is inspired by childhood drawings of birds flying high and free in the sky. Jewelry is handcrafted so there are variants in each piece. Each pair is made with care in my Brooklyn jewelry studio. Robin Erfe's designs and creative process is founded on a love for creating beauty, protecting, and adorning the body in elegance while being influenced by the various twists, textures, and imagination of nature, NYC streets, and her Caribbean and Southeast Asian heritage. She began as a child building from cardboard, plastic from discarded envelopes, collecting rocks, being mesmerized by beads, to finally continuing her education at the bench jewelers program at Studio Jewelers, Inc in NYC. Here is where she found her love for melting and fabricating art and adornment in metal. Based in Brooklyn, Robin focuses on handcrafted techniques, creating one of a kind pieces and limited edition collections. Her work showcases hand fabricated chains, precious and exquisite stones from select stone cutters, and a love for hand hammered fringe and melted metal. Her studio companion is Coco, a sassy and divine feline, along with a strong brewed cup of cafe con leche, a rotating selection of salsa dura, dembow, soul, and rock n roll within walls covered covered with sketches being revised at any given moment or becoming a new idea on her bench and soldering station. "My life with jewelry and adornment started at thirteen, when I found peace and joy during constant turbulence through bead work. I would start a small business while in high school dreaming of learning more but life had other plans. Eventually, while living in Trenton, NJ a few fellow artists reminded me to start even if wasn't the perfect time. I decided to return to NYC, make the plunge and immerse myself in this art form and adventure of metal smithing and design. I thought after my bench jeweler program I would launch a brand, understand myself as an artist and business. Instead I found myself enclosed in my studio spending years experimenting. In these times of exploration and frustration I had piles of bits of melted pieces, and found relief in melting down silver, having my flame ripple across, embracing melted textures and finding ways to combine my love of glamour and cascading fringe with earthy textures. My work is built on learning to embrace the process while learning and exploring the history of adornment which is human history. I enjoy the human aspect of my work, from combining the beautiful stones from my favorite stone cutters and explorers, to how it feels on the skin and being awed how each client transforms one of my jewels into their history and life. My studio is based in my birth place, Brooklyn NYC. Wonderfully near the places I use to dig up rocks and get my hands full of dirt and dream of collecting amber and my birth stone, Alexandrite.
