About the Item
Superb pair of late 19th century etruscan, archaeological revival earrings, artfully crafted by Castellani, one of the leading jewellery masters during the Victorian period.
These magnificent earrings feature a medallion circlet with a high done amethyst cabochon at the center surrounded by intricate wirework, granulation work and deep blue enamaling. The medallions are suspended by wirework decorated tops with hook fittings.
The combination and contrast of the high carat gold, amethyst and blue enameling is absolutley outstanding! They would make an excellent addition to any jewelry box and collection.
Inspired by the extraordinary Italian archaeological excavations of the 1800s, nineteenth-century jewelers, were inspired to create their own versions of these ancient jewelry pieces, hence “Etruscan Revival”, "Archaeological Revival". The most famous being the House of Castellani.
Characteristics of Etruscan style jewelry include use of high karat gold and semi-precious stones, and most distinguishingly, the use of intricate filigree and granulation.
Each earring is marked with the name CASTELLANI on a plaque as well as their CC in their diamond cartouche makers mark.
Each ear wire is stamped with 18C for 18kt gold
