Antique Demi Parure 14kt Gold Pietra Dura Florence Earrings Brooch Locket Back
About the Item
This fine demi parure, consisting of a pair of dangling drop earrings and matching brooch were handcrafted in Florence in the 1870's. Black basalt lozenges have been inlaid with flower bouquets made of turquoise, shells and various semi precious stones. This kind of inlay work is called pietra dura. Earrings and brooch have been fitted with lockets on the reverse. The earring tops were converted into studs in the course of history.
The brooch has been much worn and loved, the gold mount shows some slight dents on the edges
which are however not visible when worn.
The brooch measures 5.8 x 4.1 cm, the depth measures 1 cm. It weighs 20.87 grams.
The earrings measure 4.9 x 2.3 cm, the depth of the lozenges measures 0.6 cxm.
