Antique Georgian Pink Paste Ear Drops of Rare Size and Color

About the Item

Lovers of Georgian paste rejoice as never before have you seen original pink paste earrings in this grand size. The stones are approximately 10 cts in size. Note the backs and how beautifully they are engraved while silver set and foiled. A rich deep pink is the most sought after color and exactly the color of these rarities. The shepherd hook earwires have been added. All paste earrings began their journey as buttons, decorations sewn into Georgian gowns or parts of necklaces. These came to me as you see them. My guess is they were once a part of a riviere as the backs are wonderful to see. They are over 200 years of age and in excellent condition. Indeed they are dramatic and can be worn day or evening even with formal attire. I envision them on every gender. They sparkle and shimmer day or evening. How romantic they were in candlelight. There was no middle class in the Georgian era. These were worn at court or by aristocracy. Now you can enjoy this precious bit of historical jewelry. Measurements 3/4 of an inch wide and 1 1/4 inch in length. Weight 3.7 grams

Georgian Paste Snowflake Earrings
Located in Stamford, CT
Black dot paste are set in a silver snowflake pattern that sway from your ears in these Georgian earrings. The ear wires are gold. Paste was an art form that dated back to the ancient veneration of glass. It was not an imitation jewel. The paste stones were well faceted and placed in closed back settings that had a thin bit of foil under the stone to capture the light of candles or available daylight. In the Georgian and Victorian periods, royalty had their own paste makers who were so prized that they kept their formulas secret. Napoleon gifted Josephine with a paste parure...

Exceptional Georgian Paste Earrings, ex. Lillian Gish
Located in New York, NY
Amazing Georgian paste earrings in the most extraordinary shade of lime green from the early 19th Century. Set in a scalloped 14k gold setting around each stone. Georgian earrings of this quality, scale and color are so incredibly rare. The faceting is exquisite. This pair unfortunately is not perfect. There is a little sliver of glass missing from the top point edge of one of the ear pendants. It is not very noticeable when worn but is visible when closely examined. There is also a chip on oval stone of same earring. The surreal color of the lime green glass paste probably has much to do with the minerals used its manufacture. These are minerals which are obviously no longer used so this color is not replicable. The original fittings have been changed to clips later on. In addition, these come from the collection of actress Lillian Gish...
