About the Item
Italian-Riviera goldsmith Ugo Cacciatori designed this signed one-of-a-kind sterling-silver hook earring featuring four hand-cut rubies for a fashion show during a Paris Couture Week in the early 2000s. Surrounded by a chased and tinted foliage motif, the largest 10mm-long oval gem is bezel set while the others are prong set. Around the turn of the century, he was creating runway pieces for Italian couture houses and Paris-based fashion designers, such as Valentino, Giambatista Valli, and Karl Lagerfeld for Fendi.
From Carrara, Cacciatori belongs to an Italian dynasty of marble-quarry owners and artists, which is evident in his reverence for organic materials and sculptural forms. He created this pirate-inspired earring while working from his coastal studio on the Cinque Terra.
