IMPERIAL RUSSIAN 14k Rose Gold Pearls Drop Earrings by A. Tillander For Fabergé
About the Item
Unique and extremely rare a pair of The End of the 19th CENTURY Antique Faberge Era, a beautiful Pair of IMPERIAL RUSSIAN 14KT Rose Gold Pearl Earrings.
Circa 1860-1906s
Step back in time to pre-revolutionary St. Petersburg, a vibrant hub where master jewelers like A. Tillander flourished alongside the iconic House of Fabergé. These exquisite Russian Imperial earrings, accompanied by a Fabergé box, offer a rare glimpse into this era, suggesting they were commissioned by Fabergé from Tillander *—a common practice of outsourcing among leading firms.
These exquisite Pearl earrings embody the refined elegance of the mid to late 19th century. During this era, social conventions dictated a clear distinction in gemstone wear: diamonds, with their dazzling brilliance, were almost exclusively reserved for opulent evening galas and formal events. Pearls, on the other hand, possessed a softer, more subtle luminescence that made them the perfect choice for any time of day or occasion. For a discerning lady of this period, pearls were often the preeminent and singular gem choice, signifying understated luxury, purity, and impeccable taste. These Fabergé creations, with their luminous pearls, are a testament to this enduring tradition and a symbol of sophisticated femininity from a bygone era.
Rose Gold Earrings are featuring an oval shape with a central white approx. 11.39x7.50mm Mother of Pearl . Surrounding each pearl is a twisted rope like border and encircling the gold rope is a ring of seed pearls. Glorious, elegant and timeless.
The hallmarks on this pair, such as "56" zolotniks ( 14k - 583 gold) tell us that they were made in Russia during the Imperial Period before the Communists revolted, which resulted in the Revolution of 1917. And the Maker's Mark AT in Cyrillic ( reference to Alexander Edvard Tillander) dated this amazing pair to Circa 1860-1906. The distinctive oval hallmark on these earrings points to their earlier origin, making it highly probable they were crafted by A. Tillander specifically for Fabergé's firm before Tillander's own later, more recognizable diamond or full-surname hallmarks were adopted.
They have a European with kidney bean wire back, extremely secure. Total weight: 8.25g (5.3 dwt) Dimensions excluding the wire: L18.31 mm. W 16.03 mm. Length incliding the wire - 1"
SUPER MINT CONDITION tells us that most likely it was staying in one family without being sold and re-sold.
Retail Value $9,980.
TRULY ONE-OF-A-KIND!
* Alexander-Edward Tillander (1837-1918), who journeyed from Finland to St. Petersburg in 1848, honed his craft under master goldsmith Fredrik Holstenius. By 1860, he co-founded his own jewelry firm, assuming leadership in 1870. Tillander's dedication to unparalleled craftsmanship quickly propelled his company to prominence. By 1902, A. Tillander was not just a competitor, but a supplier to the Imperial Court and the most esteemed figures in the Russian Empire. Indeed, history suggests that without the 1917 revolution, his firm would have officially borne the prestigious title of "supplier of the Highest Court."
Comes with an APPRAISAL and its original FABERGE jewelry box.
Russian Jewelry
Russian jewelry has had a checkered history. The history goes back to more than 1000 years. The beauty of Russian jewelry was actually introduced formally during the reign of Peter the Great in 1719. He created what is known as the State Diamond Fund. He decreed that state jewelry was sacrosanct. The Romanov family could add to the Russian jewelry but could not use it for personal gains. Thereafter true to his declaration he and all the imperial heads of the Russian monarchy kept adding to the state jewelry. The pieces were stored by Peter the Great in the Winter Palace of St Petersburg. Thereafter Elizabeth I, her nephew Peter III and his wife Catherine the Great all contributed liberally to the state jewelry that grew progressively. Russian jewelry survived WWI, the revolution of 1917, Russian Civil War and WWII. Despite the loss of a large proportion of the antique Russian jewels , once in a while we still able to find some very nice examples.
Comes with an APPRAISAL and in a GIFT BOX.
