About the Item

Gorgeous convertible earrings designed by Katherine Jetter. Beautiful modernist and colorful pair, created in Nantucket United States by the jewelry designer Katherine Jetter. These one-of-a-kind versatile pieces has been crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats and suited with posts for pierced ears and butterfly backs. The drop parts are able to dismount to convert the earrings into day or night. Embellished with exceptional and rare gemstones. Mounted on top, into bezels with a pair of square cushion cut (7x7x5 mm) of natural vivid orange Mandarin Garnets, with a combined weight of 4.24 carat. The lower hanging elements are a pair of drops (32x11x8 mm) of natural Australian Koroit Opals with a weight of 32.08 carats They have a combined weight of 16.95 Grams and a measures of 46 mm by 11 mm (1.81 x 0.43 Inches). Stamped, with the maker's mark, the gold assay hallmark and signed, "K. JETTER .750". Katherine Jetter, has been designing Couture Jewelry for bold and brilliant women since 2008. Katherine is a self-described 'Gem Geek', creating wearable art pieces by letting the gemstones tell her what they need during her design process. All her creations are one of a kind and unique pieces and are actually highly collectable. Koroit opal is only mined in the area of Paroo Shire in South West Queensland, Australia. It is located about 80 km north northwest of Cunnamulla. It is not a town, nor should it be confused with the town of Koroit in rural western Victoria, Australia. It has neither electricity nor running water. Koroit is close to the town of Yowah which also produces a similar type of opal. The Koroit opal field is known for the very distinctive type of boulder opal that is found in its mines. In Queensland boulder opal is found within a 300 km wide belt of sedimentary rocks in the Winton formation. Here opal is found as a kernel in small concretions. The Koroit Opal field was discovered in 1897 by Lawrence Rostron. The most recent mining events started in 1972 when the popularity and profitability of the stone increased. The mining is done by either open cut large scale mining or by underground shafts. Collateral: They are accompanied by a presentation jewelry box.
