About the Item

Loose Ruby Weight: 1.36 Carat Dimension: 6.17 x 5.70 x 3.52 Mm Colour: Pinkish Red Treatment: Natural Certificate: GCI Lab Certificate Available Shape : Octagon A loose ruby gemstone is an unmounted ruby that has not yet been set into jewelry, making it ideal for collectors, jewelers, and investors who want flexibility in design and accurate quality assessment. Rubies belong to the corundum family and owe their vivid red hue to trace amounts of chromium. Among colored gemstones, rubies are highly prized for their beauty, durability, and rarity, often considered one of the “big three” alongside sapphire and emerald. The value of a loose ruby depends on four major factors: color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. Color is the most important determinant, with the finest rubies displaying a pure, vibrant red or slightly purplish-red often referred to as “pigeon’s blood.” Stones with excessive brown or purple tones are less valuable. Clarity also plays a role; while natural inclusions are common, eye-clean rubies are rare and command premium prices. A skillful cut enhances brilliance and ensures even color distribution, while larger carat weights significantly increase rarity and cost. Many rubies undergo heat treatment to improve color and transparency, which is generally accepted in the gemstone market. However, heavily treated or glass-filled rubies are far less valuable, making certification from reputable gemological laboratories such as GIA, AGL, IGI, or GRS essential when purchasing. Ruby sources include Myanmar (Burma), Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Afghanistan, with Burmese rubies being historically renowned for exceptional quality. Whether for personal use, investment, or custom jewelry, buying a certified loose ruby ensures authenticity, fair value, and the opportunity to craft a piece tailored to individual taste.
