Tri-Color Quartz (Clear Quartz/Amethyst/Clear Quartz) 21.37cts
About the Item
It is rare to find amethyst bicolors. The most commonly know version is Ametrine, but this material, amethyst and clear quartz is VERY rare. The crystal has to grown this way, has to be free of inclusions, milkiness, etc. and that in itself is rare.
(You will see a few inclusions under magnification, but gemstone is believe to be eye clean to most people - see photos to perhaps catch a glimpse).
What is even more rare in this piece is the fact that there are 3 distinct colors or bands, therefore making this a TRI-COLOR! Prior to recently, we had never seen any of this material before - unique pieces and finds come and go. We haven seen a few poor, small examples, but nothing of fine quality.
Nice examples of this material are just not frequently seen! We do have two Amethyst Bicolors which are Amethyst/Clear Quartz and can be found on our Miscellaneous Photos page, and we do have some very fine deeply colored Ametrine (see our Ametrine Photos Page), but nothing like this unique Tri-Color.
We recommend grabbing it while it is available. If we haven't see something like this in all these years in the business, then this form of quartz must be special - so special, if we can find out exactly where in Brasil they came from, we would be interested in traveling to the locality and seeing what is available. With prices of fine quality rough in Tourmaline and other species, it has become unaffordable for anything on the larger side. We encountered this beauty unexpectedly, as it was already faceted with a nice polish and literally caught our attention when in a case with minerals, as well as a small terminated crystal of similar color. The crystal itself would cut a smaller gemstone than this already faceted Tourmaline, and the price for the crystal was the price of the faceted Tourmaline. The color of the faceted gemstone was glowing whether it was indoor or diffused daylight. Since the gem was clean, had a good polish, well cut and priced below what one would normally expect, this had to be added to the All That Glitters inventory. We would describe this Tourmaline as a cushion, weighing 11.30cts(!), of a bright medium lizard green with hints of mint or light blue. Using a dichroscope on this gemstone, one can see both green and a light blue. The main body color is a glowing green with flashes/highlights of light blue or mint. The photo of the piece of rough is a similarly colored piece so you can have an idea of the color of the C and A/B axes.
