About the Item
An original 1853 Queen Victoria “Young Head” Shield Back gold sovereign, struck in 22 carat gold, presented with its Westminster case and Certificate of Authenticity. The obverse features William Wyon’s celebrated ‘Young Head’ portrait of Queen Victoria, while the reverse displays the crowned shield within a laurel wreath.
This coin was minted during the early Victorian era and is part of the longest-running gold coin series in British history. The Shield Back sovereigns were struck between 1838 and 1887, making this 1853 example a sought-after collectible for both numismatists and gold investors.
