1990 Queen Mother 90th Birthday Silver Proof £5 Crown – Original Royal Mint Presentation Box & Certificate
Issued by the Royal Mint to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother on 4th August 1990, this sterling silver proof crown is a treasured piece of modern British numismatic history.
With a worldwide mintage limited to just 150,000 coins, this crown was struck in sterling silver (.925) to proof quality and has a face value of five pounds.
The reverse, designed by Leslie Durbin, features a cypher in the form of a letter “E” for Elizabeth, interlaced and duplicated, flanked by a rose and a thistle, and crowned above. The obverse bears Raphael Maklouf’s elegant portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
