1996 Queen Elizabeth II 70th Birthday £5 Silver Proof Crown – Original Royal Mint Presentation Box & Certificate
Issued by the Royal Mint to celebrate the 70th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, this £5 silver proof crown is struck in sterling silver (.925) to the highest proof standard.
The reverse, designed by Avril Vaughan, depicts Windsor Castle — the Queen’s Berkshire residence — with four flags above: the Royal Standard, the Union Flag, the Queen’s personal flag, and two pennants bearing the years 1926 and 1996. The edge inscription reads VIVAT REGINA ELIZABETHA, recalling the acclamation from her Coronation Day in 1953. The obverse features Raphael Maklouf’s elegant portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
With a limited mintage of 70,000 coins, this commemorative issue is a sought-after collectible for both royal memorabilia enthusiasts and silver proof coin collectors.
