Antique French Jet Ornate Snowflake Droplet Collar with pin Victorian 1860s

About the Item

A splendid Antique French Jet Collar from around the 1860s. The collar is the main focus of this offering and we are including a small brooch that compliments the style of the necklace and that accompanied the necklace for many decades, as a gesture of goodwill. The collar is of significant proportions and both pieces most likely mourning jewellery; fashionable in the period following the death of Queen Victoria's beloved Prince Albert. The necklace features a delightful snowflake style motif interspersed with droplets and the brooch is also modelled aroudn a snowflake design. Crafted in French jet with black enamelled metal backing as was traditional for this type of jewellery. In very good overall antique condition without major chips or breaks. These pieces often present with several missing pieces of jet due to their age. The main event, the necklace, is is missing just one piece of jet, at the back, near the fastener and is almost impossible to spot owing to the black metal backing. Certainly unnoticeable when worn. The accompanying brooch is missing a tiny piece on the tip of one of the 6 extending prongs. A rare find of important size and in good antique condition. The necklace is approx 45cm long and approx 6.8cm front drop. The brooch 4cms.
