About the Item

A very special piece by a much sought after maker of costume jewellery. This necklace dates from the 1950s. Its construction and design is exemplary. Condition Report: Very Good - Minor wear to the surface the gold tone. This is consistent with the necklace's age and only visible upon very close inspection. The Details... This gilt metal necklace features panels detailed with glass faux turquoise cabochons, linked together to form a 'fringe' design around the neckline. The central panels, feature futher panels of graduating lengths suspended from them, terminating in a gilt metal 'bead'. All of the cabochons are claw set. The necklace is adjustable in length using the famed Dior 'S' hook and a decorative open-link chain. It measures up to 40cm in length. The necklace also has a saftey chain for added security, allowing you to feel confident about wearing this collectable piece. The necklace is signed with an oval shaped plate attached to the 'S' hook that reads 'Christian Dior by Mitchel Maer'. A Short History... This piece can be dated to the 1950s as the London based designer Mitchel Maer created for the House of Dior between 1952 and 1956. The necklace is emblematic of his penchant for Victorian and Edwardian styles, with it's gilt metal fringed collar design. Maer's designs are exceptionally wearable and his skill with metal work can be seen in this piece - the reverse of the necklace being almost as detailed as the front. Such thoughtful construction means that this necklace has and will stand the test of time. Wear it With... Sit this necklace on top of grey marl - it's faux turquoise really 'pops' when paired with muted colours.
