About the Item

This rare and important example of the work of Louis Rousselet was created in c.1930. Condition Report: Good - One glass hoop is missing from the necklace. This join has instead been secured with a sterling silver wire loop. This is a strong and inconspicuous repair and does not detract from the appeal and rarity of the necklace. There is also some dulling to a few of the paste stones. The Details... This necklace is detailed with round, colourless rhinestones claw set in individual metal cups and threaded onto silk cord to form loops. These rhinestone loops are inter-locked in pairs and then divided by colourless, faceted glass rings. The necklace measures approximately 80cm. A Short History... This is an exceptionally rare example of Art Deco jewellery from the workshop of Louis Rousselet - a master glass bead and imitation pearl maker based in Paris. Rousselet created 4 collections per year and couture houses such as Chanel, Dior and Schiaparelli selected models from his lines to compliment their collections. Similar necklaces to this example, with near identical design and findings, are sometimes attributed to Chanel. It's therefore possible that this Rousselet necklace was selected by the house of Chanel to be retailed alongside their looks. Wear it With... This necklace is perfect for a rare costume jewellery collector and would make a stunning display piece. However, it's more than suitable for wear and looks elegant paired with a deep black roll neck knit.
