An Early Victorian Topaz And Repousse-gold Suite
About the Item
An early Victorian topaz and repousse-gold suite, the necklace consisting of seventeen topazes graduating from the centre all set in gold collets with repousse gold decorations, each suspending a later pear-shaped gold droplet, to the back with six rows of gold trace chain and a topaz-set clasp, each earring set with an oval topaz suspending a pear-shaped topaz, the topazes estimated to weigh a total of 125 carats, circa 1840, the necklace measuring approximately 41cm long, the earrings measuring approximately 5cm long, gross weight 75.1 grams. In original fitted case.

This striking early Victorian suite comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This magnificent necklace and earrings set is emblematic of ornate early Victorian design and was made in around 1840. The honey-hued topaz have a wonderful glow to them, which is perfectly complemented by the soft yellow gold setting. This suite can be worn separately or together for a dramatic look.
