Contemporary Diamond Emerald Fringe Festoon Bib Necklace

About the Item

Twenty shimmering scalloped ribbons of baguette diamonds—twelve shallows and eight deeply curved—undulate around the neck interspersed with circular-cut emeralds and circular-cut diamonds and in this exquisitely designed Contemporary Diamond Emerald Fringe Festoon Bib Necklace, made in the 21st century. The sparkling piece harkens back to the luxury of Belle Époque jewelry, which portrayed Neoclassical and Rococo motifs of 18th-century French courts. Garlands and swags of foliate motifs, lace, and bows characterized the festoon necklace of this time. This utterly feminine and celebratory work of high jewelry is crafted in platinum and features 35 mixed-cut emeralds—including 17 emerald cut, 10 round, and eight pear shapes with an estimated total weight of 26.00 carats. The rich green gemstones seem to dance among baguette, pear-shaped, marquise, and round white diamonds with an estimated total weight of 41.00 carats. The celebratory diamond swags create an underlying meditative rhythm that anchors the design and a distinctive dazzle from so many baguette diamonds tightly set against one another within each curved and tapered channel. The top of each festoon features nine graduated pendants comprising single round diamonds and rectangular emerald-cut emeralds suspending a diamond cluster of pear and marquise diamonds. These alternate with eight graduated pendants at the bottom of each festoon, comprised of single rectangular emerald-cut emeralds adorned with marquise diamond “leaves.” The placement of emeralds creates a zig-zagging effect as a rich counterpoint to the curving diamond festoons. The fringe of 17 pendants is elegant and opulent, and emerald is the ideal stone for this bounty of foliate motifs. Emerald signifies abundance, prosperity, and growth within all aspects of life, primarily as expressed in nature. The foliate motifs are beautifully abstract in design, featuring the emerald-cut emerald as the star, held throughout with four sets of double platinum prongs at the cut corners. Unsurprisingly, the emerald cut was developed especially for the emerald in the 1500s to showcase its rich color. The amount is also particularly compatible with its crystal structure to minimize waste and strengthen the stone. The large table provides the ideal window into the inner world of the emerald, which is utterly enchanting. The Jardin, French for the garden, or the attractive patterns within the emerald that resemble moss or plants, make no two stones the same. The deep green is all the richer juxtaposed against many sparkling white diamonds. The clasp in the back is beautifully adorned with eight pear shape emeralds, each protected with corner prongs and arranged in flowers around a center-round diamond. Every detail in this tour-de-force piece is simply magnificent. Measures approx. 16.5" in length. 17 emerald-cut emeralds; 10 round brilliant emeralds; 8 pear-shaped emeralds. The total emerald weight of these 35 emeralds is approx. 26.00 carats. All Colombian. Baguette-shaped diamonds weighing approx. 19.50ct; 9 pear-shaped diamonds weighing approx. 8.50ct; 34 marquise diamonds weighing approx. 11.30ct; 10 brilliant round diamonds weighing approx. 1.70ct. Total diamond weight approx. 41.00 carats. Overall weight approx. 62.54 grams, made in platinum. Circa 21st Century.

    Located in New York, NY
The defining flourish of a festoon necklace is the drama of its swag, opulently undulating and accenting the collarbones in radiant sparkle. Festooning has been used since ancient times, with the most recent celebratory example adorning the city of London at the Coronation of King Charles. In classical Greek and Roman architecture, the festoon was a garland of ribbons, flowers, fruit, or foliage draped between two supports, used as decoration and, at times, the symbol of saintliness, glory, or victory. These garlands were also worn on the body--on the head or around the neck to signify honor or celebration, and this tradition was carried forward to the Classical period, the Renaissance, and through to Victorian England, especially as a recurrent motif in paintings and sculpture. The festoon is also a type of necklace that contains several drapes or swags of gemstones, chains, and other sculptural elements as the critical elements of the design. The style became popular during the Georgian period (1714–1830s), carrying over into the Victorian era (1837–1901), and has been revived with many sparkling all-diamond...
