Robert Lee Morris Gold Plated Brass Exploding Flower Necklace
About the Item
In the late 1980's, there was a big trend in the fashion world of being "green", whereby the theme of flowers, trees, and nature was rampant in jewelry and accessories. This extremely bold gold plated brass "Exploding" flower hangs on two curved sculpted "leaves", which brings the large flower up to the base of the neck and into the most powerful part of the female torso. The place just at the base of the neck becomes like armor, protection of the voice and the heart. The entire piece was carved from wax, and is a composition of a new vocabulary invented by RLM, of floral parts, leaves petals, stamen and pistil. Unusual as a new direction from the typical non representational work he is known for, the entire collection from 1988-89 was comprised of elements from nature, carved into original interpretations by Morris himself. this Statement necklace has been photographed by fashion editors over the years, and represents high drama in fashion jewelry at its best.
