A Vintage Dior by Mitchel Maer Sapphire Necklace. Maer's floral designs for Christian Dior were especially prized and sought-after in the early 1950s and today owing to their timeless allure and exquisite craftsmanship. This particular design and palette feature thoughtfully paired pale and dark sapphire coloured crystals in stylised floral motifs. The whole pearls running along the front panel adding elegance and glamour. A sublime necklace from one of the most magical eras in couture. With archive pieces from her own Dior by Mitchel Maer collection displayed in London's highly acclaimed Dior Designer of Dreams Exhibition, Jennifer understands what it’s like to be on the hunt for your perfect piece of Dior heritage. She has sourced and curated a strikingly beautiful collection of vintage Christian Dior jewels, including this one crafted when Christian Dior himself was at the helm of his eponymous House. Christian Dior partnered with Mitchel Maer, a London based jewellery designer, to create Dior's jewellery for him between 1952 and 1956. Their collaborative design proved second to none and in addition to their more classis creations pieces also exuded an air of magic and mystique, often depicting birds and animals as subjects, a popular motif of the mid-century styles. Maer's standout ingenuity orchestrated some of the best, most adventurous pieces of early Christian Dior jewellery. His exceptional talents earning Maer the privilege of co-signing pieces. Their successful relationship was relatively brief owing to Mitchel Maer's bankruptcy in the mid 1950s, the partnership with Dior also ceasing. Given the exquisite nature and provenance of the Dior's Mitchel Maer pieces, plus the short existence of this design collaboration, these pieces are justifiably sought-after. Vintage Condition: PLEASE NOTE: the hook fastener is missing/removed and now relies on the safety chain alone. This is sufficiently sturdy and secure for wear and is reflected in the price. Most likely the signature would have been attached to the missing piece. As it stands the piece is just too wonderful not to be worn. The entire necklace is otherwise in exceptional condition.
