Antique Garnet and 14 Karat Gold Cannetille Link Necklace
About the Item
This beautiful antique garnet and cannetille link necklace is made of 14 karat yellow gold. Each link is inlaid with ten round faceted garnets and every garnet is bezel set in a gold shell. In the center of these links a larger diamond-shaped garnet is set. In total there are twenty-one links - which are attached to each other with two small golden rings. The surface of the gold is decorated with many small cannetille knots, which the Dutch also called 'spiders'. The body in the center is surrounded by the spiders legs. It's beautiful. The clasp is provided with a gold safety chain and the push clasp work very well.
These types of jewels represent a varied and rich historical Dutch cultural heritage, worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands. It was part of the regional costume in 19th century. The necklace is in very good condition and measures 40 cm in length and has a nice weight of 24.4 grams. The clasp is marked with the Dutch Oak Leaf hallmark, that means the gold is made of 14 karat gold or 585. All garnet stones are present in this necklace.
