Antique 14K Gold and Garnet Two-Strand Beaded Necklace, Netherlands
About the Item
This antique 19th century garnet necklace is set with a 14 karat gold clasp. The beautiful oval-shaped clasp is nicely engraved with a floral decor, detailed figures and a scalloped border. The raised part in the center of the clasp is surrounded by a twisted gold ribbon. The garnet strands have each a gold small ball attached between the strings and clasp. The necklace opens and closes with a press-pin mechanism and is provided with a safety chain.
In the 16th century, the traditional costume was created in the Netherlands, including jewelry, which lasted until the 20th century. These types of jewels represent a varied and rich historical Dutch cultural heritage, worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands.
The necklace is in very good condition and of high quality. It measures 37.5 centimeters in length and has a nice heavy weight of 43 grams.
