Vintage Natural Coral Two-Strand 14K Gold Beaded Necklace
About the Item
A vintage natural coral and 14 karat gold two-strand beaded necklace. The coral beads of this necklace are round-shaped and set with a beautiful oval-shaped clasp created in 14 karat gold. The color hue of the coral tends to salmon - this applies to both the beads and the clasp. The clasp is set with a large smooth oval-shaped coral cabochon stone, the border has a scalloped design and the coral is set between prongs. The thread between the coral beads is knotted, this ensures that the beads do not rub against each other.
These types of jewels represent a varied and rich historical Dutch cultural heritage, worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands. In the 19th century, coral really came into fashion and was part of the traditional costume, the Dutch have been wearing coral jewelry since the 16th century.
The necklace is in very good condition and of high quality. The length of the necklace is 58 centimeters, the clasp has a nice size of 1.7 x 1.4 centimeters and the necklace weighs 61 grams. It is difficult to capture the actual color of the coral in the pictures, therefore the actual color may differ from the artificial daylight. In the third photo with the model, where the clasp is shown the color comes closest.
This piece consists of Corallium Rubrum; C. Rubrum is not on the CITES list. This type of coral does not require CITES permit.
