About

Beautiful and symbolic, this turquoise and gold necklace, c. 1860, expresses "think of me" in more ways than one. Small forget-me-not flowers are links on the persian turquoise chain that suspends a bow and a bell. Forget me nots stand for the thought "remember". Way back in time people would tie a string around their wrist or finger to prompt them to remember something. The bow motif in jewelry is derived from this history and again symbolizes the thought "remember". Perhaps the bell marks commitment as a reminder of troth or the wedding day.
In this jewel the condition and stone setting are perfect. The turquoise stones are matched. The design accentuates the suspended bow by variation in the size of the turquoise. Tiny round stones contrast with the large and bring the bow prominence. The bow drops 1 1/2 inches from the necklace. English Origin. From the Glorious Antique Jewelry Collection
