Art Nouveau Moonstone & Pearl Festoon Necklace
About the Item
Without exception, inspiration for this superb example of American Art Nouveau is grounded in the natural environment and clearly defines what the sensual movement of the style personifies. This 14k yellow gold festoon necklace is the perfect vehicle to illustrate the fluidity, sensuality and symbolism expected in a jewel of this period. A modified iris flower captures three natural pearls (untested but assumed natural) and an oval moonstone cabochon within its folds and as it suspends another moonstone cab as a drop. The festoons are decorated with tiny gold floral clusters and four small round moonstones cut en cabochon. All six moonstones glow with a stunning blue metallic sheen which shimmers across the surface of each gem.
Measurements: Length of chain is 14 7/8 inches (38 cm) and the drop is 2 inches from the chain to the bottom of the oval moonstone (5 cm). The length from circular moonstone to circular moonstone is 3 1/4 inches (8.4 cm). Weight of 10.7 grams (6.9 dwt).
