About

This is a rare, handmade French necklace in gilded worked metal with a sculptural twist to the 'flames'. The linked collar of alternating hammered and embossed/plain links highlighted with a gilded leaf motif and white paste.
The pendant has a ruby cabochon centre. Also with gilded leaf motif and white paste highlights.
This necklace is the definition of 'red carpet' glamour! Cis was the trademark of Countess Cissy Zoltowska who came from Austria to Paris and began her career as a costume jeweller in the 1950s. She designed for Pierre Balmain and Jacques Fath, then for Balenciaga for 14 years. Her jewellery design was anti real, she wanted them to be beautiful and fashionable in their own right, so they were large, in astounding colour combinations and highly inventive like her knee bracelets [p75 European Designer jewellery by Ginger Moro] as well as her more orthodox signature bib style necklaces. Her pieces were all prong set and hand mounted. Her jewellery was hugely popular and she designed both couture [many of which were not signed] and more affordable costume jewellery for sale in shops in Europe, North America, Australia and Japan. One of the greats.
