Set in sterling silver circa 1900, a rare array of aqua, pink and clear pastes sit on the neck like rays of the sun. I have not seen this design before and it is sublime. Fifteen rays emanate from pink and clear pastes and from diamond shaped links. The rays surround the neckline in a delicate display of color. Note that paste was an art form that originated with the veneration of glass in early history. In the Georgian era it was valued as highly as"real gemstones" jewelry. The formula for the stones was known only to the most successful paste makers who worked for royalty. See research on Strasser, an 18th century jeweler who was famous for the finest quality paste making. This necklace rests in its own fitted box. It measures 15 1/4 inches in length and sits on a small to medium sized neck about 1 1/2 inches below the nape. It is an easily wearable, unique piece of jewelry. .
