Vintage Navajo Silver and Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace by Eskie Tsosie

$5,800

About

A small scale Navajo Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace, lacy and refined, was made c. 1930-40 by Eskie Sossie an honored native jeweler. He was the first to create this style of box bow squash blossom. Each link looks like a small bow with a turquoise center. A squash blossom opens at the bottom. The turquoises are from one mine. The beads, made by hand, first half, then the other half, are then attached to make a whole bead. The necklace is a rare piece by a significant Navajo silversmith. Most squash blossom necklaces are large in scale. This has grace and lovely wearable proportion. The work of Eskie Tsosie can be seen in Santa Fe in the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. Price: $5800. I purchased this necklace from the curator of the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe in 1980. Condition is fine. Length: 24 inches. The naja is 1 1/2 inches long. Height: 1 3/8ths
