Art Nouveau Amber Egyptian Revival Scarab Pendant

$3,595

About

During the 19th century, the discoveries of ancient archaeological finds influenced and brought on what is referred to as "archaeological revival jewelry," or "Egyptian revival jewelry." The initial Egyptian Revival period flourished from the 1820s and was inspired by ancient Egyptian imagery, such as the scarab beetle, sphinxes, pharaohs, and hieroglyphics. An outstanding Egyptian Revival pendant from the Art Nouveau (ca1915) era! This incredible piece is made of sterling silver and has a dramatic Pharaoh and scarab design. The top of the pendant depicts a large hand-carved amber scarab at the center, which is bezel set in an ornate sterling mounting. Outstretched wings with swirled detail rest at either side, and at the top is the head of an Egyptian Pharaoh wearing a traditional headdress. Dangling freely below is a teardrop amber cabochon in a decorative sterling bezel, which has carved hieroglyphic symbols carved into the surface. Both of the amber cabochons emit a rich, warm, translucent color with some dark flecks of natural inclusions inside. A darkened Antique patina throughout the silver setting adds substantial depth to the design. At the top of the piece is a complimentary sterling bail for hanging from a chain. This magnificent pendant serves as a wonderful example of fine jewelry from the Egyptian Revival era. Perfect for a collector or lover of the Egyptian Revival style, it looks striking when worn and would make a wonderful addition to any collection! Measurements: The pendant hangs 3 5/8" long and is 2 3/8" at the widest point (measuring the wingspan). The amber scarab in the center measures 1 1/4" tall, 7/8" wide, and 5/8" thick.
