About the Item

The base of a witch’s heart jewel most commonly twists to the right side (from the viewer’s angle) and they have their origins in the 15th century. At the time, they were worn for their ‘magical properties’ to ward off evil spirits and for protecting loved ones. With interpretations of jewelry changing over time, in the 18th century, they were seen as love tokens to symbolize that the wearer had been “bewitched” with love. An exquisite moonstone and diamond witch's heart pin/pendant from the Victorian (1880) era! This stunning piece is crafted in 18kt yellow gold topped with sterling silver, and adorns an incredible heart-shaped moonstone cabochon at the center of a sparkling border. The translucent moonstone rests in an open backed setting, which allows the light to pass through, creating soft blue iridescent flashes. Surrounding the cabochon is a border of bead-set old Rose Cut diamonds, which sparkle beautifully next to the alluring moonstone. Decorating the top is a feminine bow motif, lined with similarly cut diamonds, and together the total carat weight is approximately 0.60ctw combined. The yellow gold back is smoothly polished and features a hinged bar pin and c-catch clasp, along with a hidden bail near the top, providing the piece with wonderful versatility to be worn as a pin or pendant. Whether attached to your favorite garment, or hanging beautifully from a favorite chain, this gorgeous and romantic piece would make a fabulous addition to any collection! The piece hangs approximately 1 1/8" long (including the bail), measures about 5/8" wide, and is 1/4" thick.

Wear consistent with age and use. The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and sterling silver setting. The moonstone and diamonds are all intact and securely set. The bail, bar pin, and clasp are secure.
