14K Gold Edwardian Austro-Hungarian Spider Pendant
About the Item
This 14k gold Edwardian pendant features a spider within an eclipsed bezel. The thorax of the spider consists of a round white sapphire, while its abdomen consists of a an oval ruby. Both stones are bezel set with delicate milgrain work detailing the bezel. The spider’s eight tiny legs are three-dimensional and bent in a lifelike fashion—but with a slightly curved bend to some of the legs that gives the spider a whimsical quality. The spider crawls within two circular bezels that overlap at the top corner and create a crescent silhouette along the bottom of the pendant.
The pendant measures 11/16” across, plus an additional 3.5 x 5 mm bail. It weighs 1.75 grams. The ruby measures 5 x 3 mm. The white sapphire measures 3 mm across.
It is marked on the bail as 14k, and with an Austro-Hungarian mark.
