Elsa Schiaparelli famously introduced "shocking pink" to her Surrealist-aesthetic couture clothing and its handcrafted costume jewelry that she commissioned from her Parisian paruriers beginning in the late 1920s, when some of the most expensive jewels were fuchsia Burmese rubies. In this antique handmade sautoir as a couture collaboration with Schiaparalli before wartime 1939, "shocking pink" large faux Burmese-ruby balls custom-made from coated glass beads are each delicately caged by seven textural strands of faux pearl-and-gold glass micro beads--like 33 jewel-roped hot-air balloons. These spherical stations are spaced by lustrous white medium-size faux pearls ending in a four-strand micro-bead tassel that cages four more fuchsia faux pearls. The beads are strung on bright magenta silk cord without a clasp. To compete with her rival couturiere Coco Chanel, Schiaparelli relied on the same French master glassmakers who created faux pearls from their handmade glass beads--Maison Gripoix and Louis Rousselet. Either parurier who was established by the 1920s could be credited for the complex pearls in this unsigned shockingly-fake fuchsia-gold-and-white necklace, which would have been fashioned at Schiaparelli's request likely as a collaboration with her most frequent jewelry designer through the late 1930s Jean Clement. This sautoir particularly suits his style, ranging from well-documented highly-textured tri-color sphere-decorated buttons/brooches to the fuchsia-toned metal-rosebud bead necklace in the collection of The Met Museum in NYC. This tri-color sautoir can date to the late 1920s when no other designer dared to use fuchsia so boldly and had access to such custom French faux pearls, also while sautoirs were an essential element of flapper style since Schiaparelli's couture-mentor Paul Poiret changed the silhouette of clothing. After she had become associated with fuchsia, Schiaparelli made particularly prolific use of this bright magenta in her late 1930s themed-collections. These couture collections (see our 3 closeup photos), such as "Circus" and "Comedia del' Arte", featured fuchsia jackets adorned with similar spherical colorful glass-beads among embroidered appliques and animal/clown brooches, as well as whimsical painted-ceramic buttons...

Amongst the colors are the more rare apple green, lavender, and "red" Jade. There are also some icy jades in this group. This was an old old piece that we acquired over 20 years ago. It was previously used as a charm hanging on a bird cage to bring good luck. Wearing the jade where it touches your skin will also bring good luck. Natural materials with good colors like this are getting harder and harder to find. As a business stand point, no one in their right mind would make a piece like this because of the large amount of natural jade material needed. Now a days this would have been made into many pairs of earrings in order to make the most return. The untreated / unenhanced natural jade is translucent. Please refer to the detailed photos. The handbag charm / drop pendant necklace is put together with a traditional chinese string / cord. It took many hours to skillfully put this together. The string cord is adjustable to more than 25 inches and would easily go around your neck. A collector would want this piece for their collection. This would be a great gift for that special someone.
