About the Item
This talisman necklace is from Agaro Jewels' Mohur collection. A mohur is an ancient coin or something of value, collected over time that is preserved to be passed on. Agaro's unique collection of Mohur pendants takes inspiration from rich embroideries from the silk route and miniature floral motifs. Each mohur is made using traditions and techniques of a 17th century jewelry making art from the ateliers of the Mughal Court. The pieces are delicately wrought and brilliantly fused with magnificent meenakari, or hot fired glass enameling.
The 8 pointed Star shape of this moon pendant, known as the Ashtamangala, is associated with goddess Lakshmi and symbolises good fortune, wealth and prosperity. The handmade Aṣṭakōṇa or Octagon chain itself is a very symbolic traditional design referencing the 4 directions of the earth – east, west, north and south and the 4 corners – North-east, South-east, South-west and North-west. It is believed that the Aṣṭakōṇa can destroy pain and deflect evil in all 8 directions, leaving the heart in high spirits and full of joy.
