Ancient Greek 5th Century BC Hoplite Warrior Stater Coin 18K Gold Pendant

About the Item

An authentic archaic silver "stater" coin from the Greek region of Aspendos minted between 465-430 BC depicts a helmeted Greek warrior (hoplite) advancing right holding a shield and spear. The reverse features a triskeles: a recurring motif in ancient art, possibly representing movement, power, or the sun. Aspendos was a Greek colony located in Pamphylia, Asia Minor (present-day southern Turkey). The exact meaning of the triskeles in Aspendos is not known. It may have had connection to a specific deity or concept revered in the city. This coin rests within an ancient-inspired line textured bezel setting designed by Steven Battelle. It is sent with a lifetime laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The 18K handmade hammered chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. It comes in 18”, 20”, and 24” lengths. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant. Mythic!

  • Ancient Greek 5th Century BC Swan Coin 18K Gold Pendant
    By Steven Battelle
    Located in Soquel, CA
An authentic ancient Greek coin from the region of Cilicia (now in Western Turkey) with a beautiful depiction of a swan is featured in this Steven Battelle pendant design with intricate hand applied doubled spirals accenting the bezel. This is a rare coin almost never seen in jewelry. This coin predates the time of Alexander the Great when each Greek city-state minted their own distinctive coinage. The swan on the above coin is the symbol of Astarte-Aphrodite. This bird must have been common on the Pyramus marshes near the ancient city of Mallos. The swan has always played a major role in Greek mythology, it serves as a symbol of beauty, love, and grace. Aphrodite is also often depicted riding a swan. The bird's beauty and whiteness symbolize Aphrodite's grace and allure making it sacred to the goddess of love and beauty. The opposite side of the coin is indistinct from a worn die, but is known to depict a winged figure holding a solar disc...
