In the 17th , 18th and 19th centuries the available wealth in Spain and Portugal was highly concentrated and centered in the royal courts and the Church. The early 1700's brought a relative influx of diamonds and other precious stones. The powerful trade links, meant they could easily have Emeralds, Rubies, Sapphires, Topaz and others precious stones creating a fascinating style of jewellery. During the 18th Century, and part of the 19th Century Spain controlled the gold and emerald mines of Colombia and Peru. This wealth of resources resulted in an exquisitely fine gem-set gold jewelry. Parures of emeralds, necklaces, stomachers, rings, earrings etc. were plentiful at the court of Spain. Some different periods can be distinguished: 1- "Fernandino" (1808-1833); 2- "Isabelino" (1833-1868) and 3rd "Alfonsino" (1876- 1931).
