Antique Classical Revival Hardstone Cameo Classical profile of a Lady 18 K Gold
About the Item
This beautiful oval cameo of a young baccante, a female follower of the cult of Bacchus or Dionysos was exquisitly carved out of a sardonyx. The young woman wears her curly hair decorated with ivy. The cameo is mounted in a yellow 18 karat gold locket pendant in 1865 ca. The front of the locled is embellished with six natural oriental pearls. The oval frame of the cameo is surrounded by twisted goldwire. The reverse of the loclket is also decorated with an oval applied twisted gold wire. The inside of the locket shows a hinged gold frame with glass. The locket bears the French hallmark for 18 karat.
