About the Item
An antique diamond, platinum, and yellow gold convertible brooch and pendant, comprising eighty-eight old cut and rose cut diamonds, set in platinum, and backed in 18 karat yellow gold, with 18 karat yellow gold pin and fittings.
This beautiful Edwardian brooch is designed in the garland style, which was popularised in the early 1900s. Light, airy designs, adorned with diamonds, and featuring foliate articulated swags and garlands epitomised this style. This brooch is designed as an interlocking, swooping swirl, adorned with glittering rose cut diamonds. From within this organic shape, a diamond wreath (or garland) burgeons, adorned with rose cut diamond set leaves, and millegrain bezel set old European cut diamonds. The garland cascades from the brooch, swooping across the design in an articulated swag, which moves with you and rests perfectly against the body. A foliate dropper extends from the garland, set with a large old European cut diamond, and this motif is echoed above. The diamonds are bright, sparkly, white, and well-matched with one another, giving this brooch an ethereal quality. The brooch is fitted with a yellow gold pin and C-shaped safety catch which locks tightly into place. The brooch pin and the catch can each be unscrewed from the piece, and the bale can be fastened to the top, allowing the piece to be worn as a pendant. The pendant bale fastens securely with a double hook fitting, and can accommodate both fine and chunkier chains. The pendant bale is not original to the piece and has been created by my skilled jeweller. The The brooch is in excellent condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
