About the Item
A Victorian diamond, silver, and yellow gold pin, comprising one-hundred-and-nine old mine cut, old European cut, and rose cut diamonds, set in silver, backed in 18 karat yellow gold, with 18 karat yellow gold pin and fittings.
This brooch is the epitome of beautiful French design, of the 19th Century (Napoleon III). This brooch is set with a plethora of old mine cut, old European cut, and rose cut diamonds. The brooch is centred on a diamond set bar, and at each end are scrolling fleur-de-lys motifs. The diamonds are set in shining silver, which accentuates the fire and sparkle of the gorgeous diamonds. This piece can be worn as a brooch, but it is also convertible for wear as a cloak, or cape, clasp. The Yellow gold pin and C-shaped clasp can be unscrewed from their mounts, and loops on the back of the piece allow it to be sewn to a cloak, or similar, to work as a clasp – this would look stunning as an adornment on a gown, worn on the neckline of a beautiful blouse or shirt, or to fasten a bolero together, the possibilities with this piece are truly endless, making it incredibly wearable. The piece is fitted with a concealed box clasp, which can be undone from the back, allowing you to remove your garment without having to remove the adornment. The loops also allow this piece to be sewn to a hair pin / hair slide, allowing it to be worn as a beautiful hair adornment. The brooch is in excellent condition. Pieces like this are extremely unusual, and I have never seen one like it. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The brooch measures 22mm high, and 77.5mm wide, and is 8mm deep (excluding brooch fittings).
