About the Item
An antique diamond, silver, and rose gold pendant or brooch, comprising sixty old mine and rose cut diamonds, set in silver, and backed in 15 karat rose gold, with 15 karat rose gold pin and fittings.
This beautiful Victorian pendant / brooch is designed to resemble a crescent moon. Large old mine cut diamonds span the widest point of the crescent. The diamonds are set in silver, as was the fashion at the time, the high shine of the silver aiding the fire of the diamonds. The diamonds graduate from the centre out, with the smallest diamonds becoming glittering rose cuts. The second, smaller row of diamonds are old mine cut diamonds at the centre of the crescent, graduating in size, to rose cut diamonds. The chunky, cushion shaped old mine cut diamonds are bright and wonderfully sparkly, varying in colour, size, and shape, creating a perfectly characterful Victorian piece. The diamonds are raised upon a gallery of rose gold of elegant latticework, allowing light to pass through and aid sparkle. This piece is beautifully made, as you would expect from a Victorian piece. The brooch pin can be unscrewed from the piece and removed, and the C-shape clasp flips down on a hinge, lying flat, and the pendant bale can be screwed into the centre screw fitting, allowing the piece to be worn as a pendant. It is likely this brooch was part of a set and would have originally fitted onto a very glamorous tiara. Please note, the pendant bale attachment is not original to the piece. The pendant bale has been designed by me and created by an expert jeweller. The pendant bale is tight fitting and can be moved around to allow the crescent to be worn at different angles, whether that be upright, sideways, or at an angle. The brooch / pendant is in good condition, with a small ding to the silver in one place. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The pendant measures 34.5mm wide, 41mm long including the bale, and is 6.5mm deep (excluding brooch fitting).
