About the Item

Antique likely French Pendant featuring a cameo of Sapho hand-carved on banded Red Onyx with great accuracy and precision.The color of the stone is dark Red with upper layers of bluish-white and beige colors. Made ca.19th century or earlier. Could be mounted later. Silver bezel hallmarked with 925 Silver standard hallmark. On the reverse side, Cameo is engraved "Sapho" and inventory number. The pendant measures 45 mm x 26 mm. Cameo: 30 mm x 23mm.Weight: 9.3 grams Finest used condition. Cameo is intact. Very secure setting. A small ring attached to the bail is an adapter that can be used to hang this locket on the wall. Note: You buy just one pendant without a chain. The second Locket pendant with a cameo of Maenad in the last image will not be included. Footnotes : Sappho (/ˈsæfoʊ/; Greek: Σαπφώ Sapphō [sap.pʰɔ̌ː]; Aeolic Greek Ψάπφω Psápphō; c. 630 – c. 570 BC) was an Archaic Greek poet from Eresos or Mytilene on the island of Lesbos.
