Antique Gold Peacock Pendant

An antique 19th century 14 karat yellow gold pendant with a fantasy design of fine cannetille work. The center of the pendant has a raised edge, which is decorated with cannetille and gold ornaments. Below the top four gold tassels are swing freely. These tassels are also called a 'beard'. Cannetille typically features fine gold wires or thinly hammered sheets. Jewelry with cannetille was very popular in the 1900's, particularly in the 1820's and 1830's.
