Antique Victorian Silver Locket Pendant, Holly Leaf
About the Item
A stunning antique Victorian sterling silver locket pendant.
A large sized oval locket with a beautiful repousse design of Holly leaves and berries.
The locket has the same design front and back and is able to hold photographs or a tiny keepsake, it does not have any glazed covers.
It has a large integral bale, perfect for adding to a long antique chain or a book chain style necklace.
The Holly plant has been steeped in symbolism and sentiment for many, many years, it is thought that the Victorian's believed it to mean integrity and honesty, other beliefs include the Christian beliefs that the Holly plant represents the crown of thorns and there is it's connections to Christmas, Druids believed it to hold powers of fertility and immortality and it was also touted to ward off evil spirits!
Quite the plant then if you ask us and this is quite a locket too! Beautifully crafted and designed with an unusual design and a good size.
It is Unmarked, tests as sterling silver, Victorian era C1880s.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some age commensurate wear and signs of use, light surface wear, no glazed covers.

2.55" height / length including the bale.
