An Art Nouveau Austrian Enamel and Silver Gilt Pearl Locket
About the Item
A 19th century Austrian-Hungarian silver and blue enamel oval locket with forget me not motif. The front of the piece depicting beautiful floral composition made with a 'forget me not ' flower in the centre set with natural seed pearls and a silver gilt decoration. The blue enamel and the forget me not flower both underline the meaning 'forget me not' which is eternal love and faithfulness. Inside is silver gilt compartments with two glazed sections for photographs. Hallmarks inside of the locket and suspension loop. The locket has an original leather box.
31.5 grams weight
34 mm width x 50 mm height including bail
Condition: There are losses to the enamel on the front bottom edge of the suspension loop, the lower left edge of the front of the locket and the lower right and left hand side of the back of the locket.
