Award Winning Design Turquoise Guilloché Enamel Kaleidoscope Pendant in Silver

About the Item

This exceptionally crafted and beautiful piece of art is unlike anything you will find in the world. The artists write up on the technical aspects of the piece are below. Enamel engraving was created on a very rare ornamental lathe from 1875. Old world artisans like Faberge used these machines for their works. This is a truly impressive creation and wow piece of jewelry and objet de"art! Turquoise Guilloché enamel Kaleidoscope Pendant featuring Sterling Silver mounts with an 18K yellow gold bail. The near end is relief-carved with an Acanthus Leaf motif and finished with a traditional black patina. The natural Rutilated Quartz optical diffuser at the far end allows the light in, illuminating the internal optical objective that consists of semi-precious gemstones suspended in liquid. Diameter 7/8" x 2 ½" Length Design Development: I have been refining this design for many years, offering various eyepieces, rim designs, engraved patterns, and of course enamel colors. I earned national recognition in 2010 as 1 st Place winner of the Saul Bell Award for my submission of a gold kaleidoscope that was very much like this one. Construction: The body is made of seamless fine silver tubing that I engraved with a Neuweiler Straight Line Engine and then coated with traditional vitreous enamel. All of the other metal parts were cast. The rims of the enamel were 3D-printed and cast in the shape of an F4 rosette (a component of Victorian Rose Engines) then lathe-turned to fit the enamel and finally hand finished. The small round eyepiece was lathe-turned, fitted, millgrained and polished using a jeweler’s lathe. The conical portion of the eyepiece was originally carved by Amayak Stepanyan, a renowned, world-class hand engraver. I have reproduced it here with his help and permission. The optical system consists of a lens, a mirror system, an objective, and a light diffuser. - The lens is lab-grade borosilicate glass. - The objective is made of stainless steel tube with round, lab-grade glass windows cemented to each end. A myriad of colored natural gemstones is trapped inside, suspended in a viscose liquid. - The mirror system was made from 3 hand-lapped first-surface glass mirrors bound by shrink tubing - The diffuser was cut and polished by hand from a select piece of natural Rutilated Quartz. Techniques Employed: lathe turning Straightline Engine engraving guilloche enameling relief engraving CAD/3D printing gold and silver casting lapidary cutting/polishing hard soldering laser welding Artist Bio: Bill Brinker I’ve been passionately metalsmithing since 1971, and professionally since 1981. After 14 years as a pro custom jeweler in the Denver/Boulder area I joined Andreas von Zadora’s stable of technical specialists in 1995 as a goldsmith and enamelist. My CAD skills soon made me the Project Manager for Zadora’s most complicated and challenging commissions. Consequently I regularly collaborated with highly accomplished jewelers, setters, gemstone cutters, hand engravers, watchmakers, clockmakers and mechanical engineers, in Europe and the USA. I was the technical designer and Project Mgr for scores of Object commissions that cost over $50k to make, plus 3 major works that sold for $1M or more. Zadora’s company went bankrupt in 2008 Financier Crisis. After that I worked for Todd 2011-2015. I’ve been freelancing and developing new products since then. IMPORTANT NOTES: Treating your kaleidoscope with care and taking simple precautions will help preserve its beauty and function. Using a pouch or other soft, protective packaging offers significant protection during transportation or storage. To prevent damage from thermal expansion and contraction, please ALWAYS STORE YOUR KALEIDOSCOPE PENDANT AT ROOM TEMPERATURE. Your kaleidoscope will delight them, but IT IS NOT A TOY THAT IS SAFE FOR CHILDREN TO USE without adult supervision due to its many delicate glass components. IF DROPPED OR DAMAGED, DO NOT USE THE KALEIDOSCOPE due to the possibility of broken glass, on the inside or on the outside. TO CLEAN these sensitive materials, carefully wipe the kaleidoscope with a clean, dry, soft cloth such as cotton flannel or use an untreated jeweler’s polishing cloth such as SELVYT®. Only if required, dampen the cloth with a mild solution of dish detergent (~1 drop per qt. of water) and wipe the parts again. The surfaces should only be moistened, not fully wet. Then rinse the cloth in clean water and repeat to remove any remaining dirt or soap residue. Dry promptly to prevent water marks.

Exquisite Antique Swiss green guilloche enamel and silver locket. We believe the piece was a ladies pocket watch previously and converted to a locket later. This enamelled locket was made in Switzerland and it's decorated with a hand painted romantic scene of a pair of a man leaning against the bricked wall towards a last in a dress. The scene is finished with a beautiful scrolled gold frame. This piece is also decorated with delicate seed pearls on the edges from each side (front and back). The locket opens to reveal one compartment separated with a glass where we believe the watch mechanism was one placed. Fully hallmarked inside of the green enamel side: 'ARGENT DORE...
