About the Item

A gold necklace, by renowned master goldsmith Bent Gabrielsen, c. 1970; made in 14 karat gold as was usual in the Nordic Scandinavian style. The neck collar measures 14". The pendant has an articulated fringe, and measures 2.30" by 2.45". It is stamped B Gabrielsen, maker's mark, 585 Denmark. Bent Gabrielsen, who died in 2014, was a Danish goldsmith known for his purist designs, without any extraneous bells and whistles, and with a beautiful sense of restraint. Small wonder his work was deeply admired in Japan. He designed jewelry for both Hans Hansen and Geoge Jensen, ultimately setting up his own workshop. In 1964 he won the Lunning Prize, awarded to eminent Scandinavian goldsmiths.
