Byzantine Empire 9th Century AD Bronze Bust Of Christ Coin 18K Gold Pendant
About the Item
An authentic, sharply struck, large (23mm) bronze coin was issued between 976 to 1025 AD in Constantinople during the realms of the Byzantine Emperors Basil II and Constantine VIII. This coin depicts Jesus Christ holding a book of gospels with a nimbate cross behind. The reverse side is an inscription (in Greek) in four lines "Jesus Christ, King of Kings". This high-grade coin is set in a ancient-inspired Steven Battelle designed handmade line textured bezel 18K gold setting with matching bail above. It is sent with a laminated lifetime coin certificate of authenticity. The 18K handmade hammered chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. It comes in 18”, 20”, and 24” lengths. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant. A historic and beautiful portrait!

After a chance trip to SouthEast Asia in 1987, Steven Battelle became fascinated with the jewelry and iconology from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Asia. Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
