About the Item

Edwardian Pansy convertible brooch designed by Crane & Theurer Inc. A very beautiful piece, created in America during the Edwardian and the Art Nouveau periods, back in the 1900's. This outstanding convertible pendant-brooch has been carefully crafted by Crane & Theurer in solid yellow gold of 14 karats with polished finish and embellished with applications of glossy glass enamel, with colors gradations of purple, black and white. The enamel work is exceptional and meticulous, far exceeding the details of the fibers and veins of the leaves. It is a little jewel with exquisite and exceptional details, Pansies flowers symbolize a hope that love should not be forgotten. Fitted at the reverse with a horizontal hinged pin bar and a hook to wear as a brooch and mechanical retractable ring to wear in a chain as a pendant. Diamond: Mounted in a four-prongs setting, with 1 old European rose cut diamonds, 0.08 carats, white colorless F color, VS-2/SI-1 clarity. Pearls: The border of the petals are mount in flush setting, with 46 round gray/white pearls of 1 mm. Weight: 7.65 Grams (4.90 Dwt). Measurements: 26 mm by 26 mm by 7 mm (1.02 x 1.02 x 0.28 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark monogram associated to Crane & Theurer, the gold assay mark, the inventory numbers and signed, "TC 14KT 610". Crane & Theurer The company was established in 1895 in Newark, New Jersey, when they set up as manufacturers of jewelry under their own name. The company existed until the beginning of World War II. They produced jewelry of good quality and one of a kind. Their maker’s mark was a ”T with a C crossing, the T's downstroke. They was located at the 13-15 Franklin St. in Newark NJ and moved in 1906 to the 68 Orchard St. in Newark NJ. The Edwardian Jewelry This period was during the King Edward VII, after whom this period of jewelry history is named, reigned over England for only nine years, yet the style of jewelry known as “Edwardian” was created roughly between 1890 and 1920. Edwardian-era rings tend to be larger, opulent pieces, and stacked ring designs were popular. The metal surfaces of the rings were often diamond-encrusted for additional shimmer. Each of these rings is a work of art, showcasing a bygone era of grace, elegance and the royalty the Edwardian era is named for. Collateral: This piece is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this pendant-brooch is impeccable. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. The pearl is secured in the setting and the enamel is perfect.
