About the Item

Guilloché (in English usually "Guilloche") is an engraving technique in in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloche surface was then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design would show through the colorful enamel. A spectacular and unusual Guilloché enamel watch pendant and lorgnette chain from the Edwardian (ca1910s) era! Crafted in 18k gold and platinum, the piece begins with a delicate lorgnette chain, which features seven, light blue enameled panels. The panels are decorated with an intricate geometric pattern, and the chain secures at a simple spring ring clasp. The ornate links come together at a connector that is decorated with rose cut diamonds. Hanging from the connector is a short piece of lorgnette chain which ends at a watch clasp. The watch pendant is simply marvelous! The dark, tan face of the watch is held within an intricate Guilloche case, which is pale blue in color and adorned with a geometric pattern. The back of the watch is decorated with an intricate, filigree design and rose cut diamonds. At the center of the back of the watch is a small floral motif, which features another rose cut diamond. The watch is fully functional but must be wound on a regular basis. The blue color of the enameling is simply fantastic. It's a magnificent watch pendant and chain and would make a lovely addition to any collection! Measurements: The chain measures approximately 23" long with a 1 1/2" lorgnette extension. The watch pendent measures slightly less than 1 1/2" long, 1 1/16" at the widest point and about 1/4" in depth. Condition: The overall condition of the pendant and chain is excellent. There is not apparent damage to the 18k or platinum settings. The enameled watch pendant is in fine condition with no apparent chips. The enameled chain is also in fine condition with no major chips and all of the diamonds are intact. The watch keeps perfect time as long as it is wound regularly. The spring ring clasp which secures the lorgnette chain is in working condition.

SWISS 2000-315" The Edwardian era Like the Georgian and Victorian eras before it, derives its name from the reign of the English King, Edward VII (1901-1910). Edwardian jewelry is known for representing femininity while incorporating a lot of the color white. Think diamonds, pearls and white metals like platinum and white gold. Diamonds often had an Old Mine or European cut and sapphires were a popular choice for a pop of color. They tended to be made from platinum and diamonds – the more, the merrier – and used fashionable, intricate techniques such as filigree and millegrain. Edwardian rings are works of art and best worn alone or alongside a simple wedding band. Mill graining, a new decorative technique made possible by the use of platinum, is featured often on Edwardian jewelry. Its border of delicate balls and ridges surrounding a gemstone or on the knife sharp edges of a design served to give jewelry a softer, lighter look. Guilloché This technique is used in fine jewelry to enhance the appearance of brooches, rings and pendants. Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue.
