Edwardian brooch pendant with peridot and pearls, early 20th century.

About the Item

Old jewelry, so-called brooch-pendant in Edwardian style, early 20th century A wonderful Art Nouveau construction made of 9-karat gold, set with 69 natural pearls, additionally decorated with 7 natural olivines with a total weight of approx. 2.15ct. Edwardian jewelry (approx. 1901–1910) was characterized by lightness, finesse and elegance, often inspired by the neoclassical style and plant motifs. Mainly platinum, pearls and diamonds were used, creating delicate "lace" of metal with openwork patterns. Origin: Western Europe, early 20th century. Weight: approx. 6.74 g. Dimensions: 40 x 38 mm. We include a certificate from a gemological laboratory with the purchase. Edwardian jewellery, popular in the early 20th century (during the reign of King Edward VII, 1901–1910), was characterised by elegance, delicacy and a romantic style. It was dominated by light stones, mainly diamonds and pearls, set in platinum – a new, extremely durable metal that allowed for the creation of intricately openwork patterns resembling lace. It was inspired by plant motifs, garlands, bows and neoclassical ornaments, and the whole thing was to exude luxury and lightness. Edwardian jewellery with olivine (also known as peridot) is a less common but very effective example of the style from the early 20th century. Peridot, with its light green, fresh colour, perfectly fit into the romantic aesthetic of the era – it was often combined with diamonds and pearls, creating subtle compositions in platinum or gold settings with openwork, plant patterns. Such jewellery was an expression of refined taste and love of nature, typical of the Edwardian style.
